About The Blog

The central theme of Voorhees' New Jersey Legal Malpractice Blog is New Jersey legal malpractice law and legal malpractice insurance law. The author recognizes that there are significant cases decided around the country which may have an effect upon the development of the law in New Jersey.

This blog is designed to be an up-to-date comment upon New Jersey law and law throughout the country on these two topics. It is designed for legal malpractice lawyers “on both sides of the fence”, as well as legal malpractice insurers. The author’s point of view is that of a trial attorney “in the trenches”.  The author assumes that the reader has a certain level of sophistication in legal malpractice insurance and legal malpractice insurance coverage issues, as the case may be.

The reader will note that unpublished Opinions provide a portion of the cases which this blog analyzes. Unpublished cases, of course, do not carry the force of stare decisis. Frequently, however, they are invaluable guides to “which way the wind is blowing” in developing areas of legal malpractice and insurance coverage law.

The publisher has provided links to the Lexis version of the unpublished Opinions for those who subscribe to that service. Unpublished New Jersey State cases are provided, with links were possible. If for some reason there is no link, go to the links section of the Home Page, follow the link to NJ Courts Online, and follow the tutorial contained on that site to link with the archive of unpublished Opinions.

About Bill Voorhees

Bill Voorhees sues lawyers and represents lawyers in disputes with their legal malpractice insurance companies. He limits his practice to legal malpractice, legal malpractice insurance, and legal ethics issues.

Bill has served as Chair of the New Jersey State Bar Association Malpractice Insurance Committee. He was appointed by the Supreme Court of New Jersey to serve on the District X Ethics Committee.  He has been certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a Civil Trial Attorney for twenty-six years.  He is a Past President of the Morris County Bar Association.

He is listed in “Best Lawyers in America”, “New Jersey Super Lawyers”, and is rated AV (Preeminent) by peer review organization Martindale Hubbell.   He is one of four lawyers in his specialty in New Jersey rated "first tier" by the U.S. News and World Report.

He lectures frequently on legal malpractice and Ethics topics for the Institute for Continuing Legal Education, the New Jersey State Bar Association, New Jersey Association for Justice, The American Bar Association, Morris County Bar Association, and the New Jersey Law Journal Continuing Legal Education Series.

For more than twenty-five years, Bill worked for legal malpractice insurance companies defending legal malpractice claims and representing insurance companies in coverage disputes with lawyers. Bill “switched sides” and now represents plaintiffs who are suing their lawyers for legal malpractice or defending against fee claims by their former lawyers.

Bill also represents insured lawyers in disputes with their legal malpractice insurance companies over coverage issues, and serves as an expert in legal malpractice claims being prosecuted or defended by other attorneys. With thirty-six years of practice, there is no other attorney in the state of New Jersey who can match Bill’s experience “on both sides of the fence”.
